JACL and the Asian Pacific Islander Immigration Week of Action

To emphasize the need for passing comprehensive immigration reform (CIR) in 2010, JACL-PSW, along with numerous other AAPI organizations across the nation (including National JACL), recently participated in an AAPI Week of Action around immigration. Like the Week of Action of 2009, this past Week shared the same goal of raising public awareness on how the broken immigration system impacts the AAPI community All the organizations involved with the Week of Action participated in a nation-wide blogging campaign, producing 30 blogs on 6 websites. Although the Weeks of Action are now officially over, events and advocacy will continue, as immigrant advocates around the country push for CIR in 2010.

JACL Pacific Southwest District Advocates on the Metro Regional Connector

JACL working as a member of the Little Tokyo Community Council has been a strong advocate in the debate regarding Metro’s new proposed Regional Connector. In order to minimize the impact to Little Tokyo’s businesses, events, and non-profit organizations our district has played a major role in the following activities: 1) dialogue with Metro administrators and 2) strategizing with Little Tokyo stakeholders. Through that dialogue both Metro and the Community have reached a tentative consensus around the building of a 3rd alternative which will run primarily underground, under 2nd Street, and surface along Alameda and 1st street.
