PSW Welcomes Kristin Fukushima as the new Public Policy Coordinator

The JACL Pacific Southwest District is pleased to welcome Kristin Fukushima as the new Public Policy Coordinator for the District. Kristin will coordinate the districts work in promoting immigrant rights, and advocating for the Asian Pacific Islander voice to be heard in the push for comprehensive immigration reform. Kristin will also carry out advocacy for Little Tokyo community preservation and a multitude of other civil rights issues.

Kristin previously interned as the West LA Chapter Intern and through the Nikkei Community Internship. Graduating from Pomona College this past Spring, Fukushima studied Sociology and Asian American Studies. She was active on Pomona’s campus with various student organizations such as the Asian American Mentoring Program, the Students of Color Alliance, the Women’s Union, Workers Support Committee, Power Dynamics Awareness Club, the Intercollegiate Department of Asian American Studies, and others. While still in school, she also became involved with Little Tokyo, and wrote her senior thesis on its history and (re)development as a member of J-Town Voice.
