VisionThe JACL Pacific Southwest District envisions… A socially just society where Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and other community members feel enfranchised, empowered and are free of prejudice and discrimination in all facets of society.
MissionInformed by the history and experience of the Japanese American community, The mission of the JACL Pacific Southwest District is to… To advocate for civil rights and community preservation through empowerment and activism for Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disenfranchised communities. What We DoThe JACL Pacific Southwest District pursues its mission through various leadership development and community engagement programs for youth as well as direct advocacy to policymakers and public administrators. Through these programs that we envision a socially just society where Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and other community members feel enfranchised, empowered and are free of prejudice and discrimination in all facets of society. HistoryOver its 81 years of existence, the JACL has taken part in historic campaigns and championed important legislation such as the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 granting Redress and Reparations for Japanese American Interned during World War II. Understanding that Japanese Americans have a role to play in the larger framework of the Asian Pacific Islander community, current-day JACL advocacy and campaigns all taken a specific focus on issues relevant to Asians and Pacific Islanders such as healthcare access, access to education, immigration reform and integrating our communities.
