Reflecting on our Legacy

The Japanese American Community is defined by our history, culture and heritage. Help the JACL remember and build on the legacy of our Nisei.

Nearly 22 years ago, we fought for redress and reparations, which led to the signing of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, the Presidential apology to all Japanese American internees during World War II. Today, through The Day of Remembrance, JACL remains committed to educating today’s generation about the experiences of those interned during World War II.

Creating New Milestones

Through empowering and activating our community we can advocate for the civil rights of all communities.

While JACL has accomplish much, more remains to be done. We believe that a critical path to creating new milestones in civil rights is to develop a new generation of young leaders who can advocate on behalf of our community. To realize this vision, the District has spearheaded the creation of numerous youth leadership development and education programs, such as Mobilize for Policy, Project: Community! and Bridging Communities. Every year over 100 youth participate in community activism, discuss policy issues impacting Little Tokyo, and learn about the Japanese American Experience.

In addition to developing the next generation of leaders who will continue the work of those before us, the Pacific Southwest District actively advocates on issues related to community preservation of Little Tokyo and policy issues, such as comprehensive immigration reform, access to higher education, and census outreach.

Our Annual Fund

The work that we do is made possible only through the financial support of friends like you. Please support our district with a financial contribution.
