JACL 2011 Convention in Los Angeles
JACL Pacific Southwest District Calling for Volunteers!!

Los Angeles – The JACL Pacific Southwest District is actively looking for volunteers to assist in the implementation of the exciting 2011 National JACL Convention. The convention, held from July 7-10, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency, Century Plaza will bring out JACL members from across the nation to see our wonderful city of Los Angeles.

Our District is looking for active JACL & community members with a variety of skills and available time to help plan the various different facets of our convention. Volunteers will have the opportunity to interface with other community members, connect with the programs and initiatives of our district, as well as be a part of an exciting development for our organization.

Bi-annually (and now annually), the Japanese American Citizens League convenes nationally to discuss pressing national issues within the Japanese American and Asian Pacific Islander community, plan for action surrounding these issues, as well as assess and plan for the future of the JACL and the community as a whole.

This year’s convention will have a Conference Day where participants and community members assess the state of the national Japanese American community. Participants in different sectors (e.g. education, social services, civil rights, leadership development) will use the conference to network and brainstorm with other community members in the same sector and vision out the future of our community.

If you are interested in taking part in our exciting 2011 Convention, please contact Mary Rose Go at the JACL Pacific Southwest District office. 2011 JACL Convention to be Hosted by the Pacific Southwest District

How many of you remember when the last time JACL hosted a national convention in Los Angeles? It’s been years and much has changed since then. We don’t have smog. The population has grown, there are more freeways but most notably in the Pacific Southwest our leadership is younger and there are more young members in our chapters that are interested in JACL than ever before.

What are we doing right?

PSW has created programs that connect both the youth and young adults to what is important in our communities and we want to share that with the entire JACL population. We create programs that involve young minds thinking about public policy and how they can create a voice to shaping what happens in our cities. This is innovative leadership and what better way to share that than to host the JACL National Convention in 2011.

Come meet the people that were inspired by the “can do” attitude of the Nisei generation and put that into the “will do” attitude of our multi-cultural youth of today.

This is only half the show case we will share.

The vision of JACL that we want to show case is what JACL can be when we mix young energy with the business sense of what our community has to offer. We will do more than talk about what can be but show how JACL will be of importance to business large and small and remind ourselves why we matter.

This is our vision of the next chapter in JACL. This is the time to redesign our role in building meaning to our membership and the community that depends on us for leadership.

Embracing change is what we are celebrating in Chicago.

JACL 2.0 is what we are living in Los Angeles. Come join us at the Hyatt Century Plaza July 7-10, 2011.
